Have you noticed that when you go to a party and they serve appetizers, they are usually so good that you eat too many and don’t have room for your meal? My extended family gets together once a month for dinner. We decided that we would start a tradition. Once a year we have an hor doevres party instead of a regular meal. There’s always plenty to eat and we don’t have to worry about saving room!
These Little Smokies are gone in about 2 minutes. I always make more than I think we’ll need, but they are still gone before I know it!
Though these are called “Appetizers” we also eat them for breakfast. They are best fresh and hot out of the oven, but they also freeze well and can be re-heated easily.
2 tubes Pillsbury Crescent Roll dough
1 pkg. Hillshire Farms L’il Smokies
Open and unroll the crescent rolls. You will find 8 triangle shaped rolls. Using a Pizza Cutter, cut each triangle, the long way, into 3 smaller triangles.
They should be about 1″ wide on one end and tapering down to a point; about 6″ long. Starting at the wide end, roll up each smokie in a triangle of dough. Place on a parchment lined baking sheet with the point down. (This prevents them from unraveling as they bake.)
Bake 11-12 minutes at 375° or until golden. They are best when served hot right out of the oven. Serve with mustard sauce, ketchup or BBQ sauce for dipping.
This recipe makes about 48. (It sounds like a lot, but that usually only serves about 2 – 3 guys around here!) There aren’t usually any leftovers, but if you can manage to hide a few, you can eat them for breakfast the next day!
