Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix

Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix

I love to make my own seasoning mixes. Most of the time I find a recipe I like and then I tweak it to make it more to my taste. That’s what I did with this one. This Taco Seasoning Mix is easy to customize to your own taste. If you like more Chili Powder, add more chili powder. If you like more Cumin, add more cumin. The recipe below is for a mild taco seasoning mix, but it can easily be made spicy by adding cayenne pepper. This can be used in place of the packaged taco seasoning. In fact, you will probably like it better!

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

2 teaspoons ground cumin

¼ teaspoon smoked paprika

¼ teaspoon dried oregano, crumbled

¼ teaspoon garlic powder

¼ teaspoon onion powder

1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, if you want a spicier mix)

Combine the ingredients in a small bowl and stir together. Store the mix in an airtight container. 2 ½ – 3 tablespoons is equal 1 packet of taco seasoning.

For regular crisp tacos, brown 1 lb. ground beef and drain fat. Sprinkle about 2 1/2 – 3 tablespoons of the seasoning over the meat and add ¾ cup water. Simmer until the water cooks off. Spoon the delicious taco meat into crisp taco shells and top with grated cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole.  You know, all the good stuff!

This is also great used in my 7-layer Taco Dip. Click HERE for the recipe!

I was planning on making Tacos for supper when I realized I was out of Taco Seasoning. I logged into Pinterest for help. I found Grandmabees recipe and didn’t think I could go wrong since it was made by a Grandma. I am going to try it tonight.
