Homemade Copycat “Tootsie Rolls”

Tootsie Rolls are one of my favorites. Making these copycat tootsie rolls can be a fun activity with the kids.  They can help measure the ingredients and knead the “dough.”  Kids like to make snakes with play dough, but this edible!

Try it! The kids will have a great time and be proud that they made their own treat!

This recipe doesn’t take any unusual ingredients.

1 oz. Square unsweetened cocoa
1 T butter
1/4 c. light corn syrup
1/2 t vanilla
1 1/2 c. sifted powdered sugar
6 T instant nonfat milk powder

Place the chocolate & butter in a large glass bowl and microwave on high for at least 1 minute, stirring during the cooking until it’s all melted. Stir in corn syrup & vanilla and microwave 1 more minute.

mix in 1 c. powdered sugar (through a sifter)

add the milk powder and stir until it’s all blended.  When it cools enough to handle, knead the “dough” a few times.

Let the kids roll it into a rope (or a snake!) and cut it into little logs.  Wrap each in wax paper.
