Grandma’s Best Garlic Toast


Garlic Toast is the perfect accompaniment to just about any kind of pasta dish. What I love about this garlic toast is that the shredded parmesan cheese on the top gets crispy! This is my “go to” garlic bread. When I have more time (and energy) I make my Amazing Herbed Breadsticks or my Twisted Breadsticks to serve with pasta. This garlic toast is just as delicious, but takes less time and effort, so it’s perfect for a busy day.

There’s not really a recipe with specific measurements, just a technique.  Here’s what I do to make this delicious garlic toast:

Slice a loaf of French Bread lengthwise. Slather it with softened butter, (At this point, after buttering the bread, I like to slice part-way through the bread into 1 1/2′ wide sections all along the loaf. See the photo above. It’s easier to do now before adding the next 2 ingredients.)

Sprinkle it with a little bit of garlic powder, according to your taste, but remember, a little goes a long way!

Lastly, sprinkle on some shredded Parmesan cheese. (Don’t even think about using the grated stuff in the green can!)

Lay the 2 halves on a baking sheet and broil just until golden and the shredded Parmesan cheese is bubbly and crispy! 

It’s easy to pull it apart in sections.
