Fruit Turnovers

Easy Fruit Turnovers

Sometimes it’s nice to have a home baked pastry for breakfast. Pastries are usually too tedious and time consuming to want to make them for breakfast first thing in the morning.

These cream cheese and jam filled turnovers can be ready in 20 minutes.  The trick is to use the Pillsbury Grands Flaky Layers Biscuits.

Grands Flaky Layers Biscuits

When you open the can they are about 3/4″ thick and about 3″ in diameter.  Use a rolling pin to roll out the biscuit dough into a 6″ round.  (I like to use my Mini Rolling Pin for small things like this.)  They are less than $5.00 and are such a handy tool!

Now here is where you get to customize the fillings.

First, put about 1-2 T. cream cheese on half of the dough, followed by a dollop of your favorite jam or jelly.  (The turnover pictured above is filled with cream cheese and orange marmalade. Another favorite in our house is the cream cheese and raspberry jam filled turnovers!) Leave about 1/2″ border.

Wet your finger with water and spread onto the edge of the dough then fold the dough over the fillings to make a half moon shape. Press the edges with a fork to seal.  Using a sharp knife, cut 2-3 slits in the top to allow steam to escape while they are baking.)

Brush the top of the pastry with egg wash (1 egg + 1 T. water)

Place on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake at 350° for 14-17 minutes or until golden.  These are best served warm!

I found your site the other day and came across this recipe and it sounded so good I pinned it for future use. Well tonight I had some can blueberry pie filling that I had to use up so I made your turnovers with them using the cream cheese also. They were AWESOME. Hubby and I are enjoying a second one this minute. Thanks.
