There’s a well known fast food restaurant that has the best tasting oatmeal. It is topped with diced apples, raisins, dates and nuts. Instead of milk and sugar on top, it is served with a delicious syrup.
I concocted a copycat version of this tasty hot cereal.
To make 2 large servings:
1 3/4 c. water
1/8 t. salt
1 c. regular (not quick cooking) oats
Bring water and salt to a boil. Add oats and stir. Reduce heat to medium and cook for 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cover and remove from heat. Allow to stand, covered, for 2-3 minutes.
While the oats are cooking, make the syrup:
1/2 c. maple flavored pancake syrup
1 – 2 T. Coffeemate French Vanilla Creamer
Heat together in a small dish (in the microwave.) Stir until the syrup is smooth and milky.
To serve, drizzle with the Maple-Vanilla syrup and top with:
diced, fresh green apples
assorted raisins, dried cranberries, chopped dates
pecan or walnut pieces
