These amazing herbed breadsticks are a variation of my “Perfect White Bread” recipe. This bread recipe is so versatile that it can be made into loaves of bread, dinner rolls or breadsticks. Once you make this amazing herbed breadstick recipe, you will never want to make any other. (My husband thinks I put an addictive chemical in them!)
They are baked until they are golden, then brushed with a butter-y herb mixture that is scrumptious! They can also be twisted like these! CLICK HERE for a fun technique to make bread twists!
The bread recipe will make about 3 dozen breadsticks, but you can halve the recipe if you need fewer…
2 pkgs. yeast
2 c. warm water
4 T. sugar
1 egg, beaten
2 c. milk, scalded and cooled
4 t. salt
5 T. shortening
12 c. flour
Dissolve the yeast in warm water. Add sugar, egg, milk, salt, shortening and half of the flour. Mix well. Add enough of the remaining flour to make the dough easy to handle. Knead 10 minutes by hand or if you are using a bread mixer with a dough hook, add only enough flour to clean the sides of the mixing bowl. Mix on medium 6 minutes.
Let rise until double. Punch down and shape into breadsticks.
Allow to the breadsticks to rise until they are double in size. Bake in a preheated 425° oven for about 11-14 minutes or until golden brown.
While the rolls are baking, stir together the following to make the Herb-Butter Glaze:
6 tablespoons melted butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon dry dill weed
1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Remove from oven and brush lightly with the butter glaze while still hot.
